About

Celebrating Dante in Bristol is co-ordinated by Dr Tristan Kay, Dr Rhiannon Daniels, and Dr John McDowall.

The organizers work closely on Dante and the study of visual and material culture.

Tristan Kay (Senior Lecturer in Italian, University of Bristol) has published widely on Dante and is currently working on a Leverhulme-funded project on Dante’s modern reception, focusing on political appropriations and ideas of the Italian nation.

Rhiannon Daniels (Associate Professor of Italian, University of Bristol) also works on the reception of medieval Italian culture and has a long-standing interest in the intersections between artists’ books and medieval book production.

John McDowall is an artist who works principally in the medium of the book. Artists’ books are also the focus of diverse curatorial and commissioning projects, and are a central research topic. He is Visiting Fellow in the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies, University of Leeds.
